Proposed Banner Certification Matrix
Minimize

The Banner certification process is a brief matrix / bridge to the career academy matrix that will allow a future formal part of the certification process to be accomplished.  The Banner Bridge to industry certification (BBIC) indicators are designed to be broad to  permit industry representatives to provide input from their perspective.  The industry assessment will be conducted annually to maintain Banner certification of the career and professional academy until such time that industry certifies the career academy.

Proposed Process

1.  A Career and Professional Academy will apply (electronic submission) for Banner Secondary Certification.

2. After the application is received, the Banner Center for Secondary Career Academies will contact a Banner Center or industry partner who will schedule a meeting with the career academy.  In the case of emerging industries (ex. Biotechnology, Alternative Energy), a university or college with an established industry-based advisory board and postsecondary program may select  a suitable designee to perform the assessment.  For an emerging occupation, the Banner certification designation will be “Banner Bridge to Emerging Certification” (BBEC) for the career academy.

3. The representative completes a phone conference call with the Banner Center for Secondary Career academies as a  training process, and will receive data electronically regarding the applying academy.  The applying academy may participate in the training conference call.

4. The assessor(s) will complete an online form to document the necessary information and will electronically forward this to the Banner Center for Secondary Career Academies within 48 hours of the assessment.  The certification is based on a point system.  Based on the site visit and evidence provided by the school, assessors are asked to award appropriate point values for each section of the matrix.

5. The Banner Center will notify the secondary career and professional academy of the results and may request the supportive  documents be forwarded.
